London Part 1

Since all eyes are on London these days I thought it would be the perfect time to post some favorite pics.
Big Ben

Much of the discussion of late has been about the weather…

since London just had its rainiest second quarter ever.

I can relate.

When Edward and I visited in 1992, we had rain every day of our two week trip.
HMS Belfast

At one point we were watching a sheep herding contest on tv (yes really) and the announcer labeled the steady drizzle “lovely weather” without a trace of irony.
The London Eye

But then when we visited in 2006,
Parliament

London was in the middle of a drought.

It was surreal.
Westminster Abbey

Just look at this photo of the Tower of London surrounded by brown instead of its typical green carpet.

Lilies

In the heat of summer the flower superstars are the lilies.

We have all kinds in NYC

 – canna lilies,

day lilies and

even water lilies.

Both the Central Park and the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens have lovely collections.

But these last four photos

are from my roof garden

at the Amherst.

We have some shade loving day lilies in the backyard as well.

Embroidery: Tall Coral

Here’s another favorite from the Tropical Fish collection.

As with the others in the series it combines embroidery, in this case of coral,

with a pen and ink drawing of an orchid.

Then I placed all the elements over a flower shot and added a variety of special effects to achieve the end result.

Enjoy!

Boston

Boston is a great place to visit.

It has all of my favorite things – history, art, architecture, parks, and it’s easy to walk around.

I actually lived in Boston for two years when I got my MBA at Northeastern.

In 2008 Edward and I decided to go to Boston together.

I had fond memories of the Freedom Trail and it did not disappoint.

How could it with stops like The Boston Commons,

the Old North Church

and Old Ironsides.

Another highlight was the Isabella Gardener Museum – one of those quirky little gems like the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in Venice.

But I think what we enjoyed most of all was eating in Quincy Markets!

Embroidery: Chat Eiffel

This is one of my favorite pieces because Paris is one of my favorite cities.

The background combines a photo of the Eiffel tower with a canna lily that was growing in the garden behind Notre Dame Cathedral.

Then I incorporated a pen and ink drawing of the ubiquitous Chat Noir cat.
But, I used artistic license and turned it into a tabby to make it more interesting.
