Butterflies for Kenny #3

The silver lining of social distancing is that I actually have time to do some artwork. :-)

Butterflies #3 is a tribute to Bridget Riley, a leading Op art artist.  She's still alive (88) and lives and works in the UK.

Here's a bit more about her...

Full disclosure, I used pen and ink instead of colored pencils for this one, because I was fairly sure that if I tried to use colored pencils I would end up smearing them.

Since it was time consuming, I stopped periodically.  When I got to this point, Edward said - "That's it.  Call it done now."

I wasn't so sure, and I am an off the charts "J" so I had to finish.  And when I did, I realized that he was right.  See if you agree...

Here are links for the book in case you want to join the fun!

And here are my previous butterflies...

Cheers!

Seward Johnson 3

Seward Johnson died March 12, 2020.

He was 89 years old.

He is known for his lifelike sculptures.

There's one in Manhattan on 34th Street between 3rd and Lex of a painter that appears to be a permanent resident of the city.

But in the summer of 2015,

there was an exhibit of many of Johnson's pieces

that ran up Broadway between Herald Square and Times Square.

I still remember how much fun it was.

Not only were the pieces amazing but the way that people interacted with them was awesome too.

It makes me smile to think of it.

Here are the blogs I posted previously.

And here's to Seward Johnson.
