Fruits & Veggies

Harvest is barely over and I am already missing my local organic produce

and my weekly trips to the farmer's market in Union Square.

It doesn't take long to get spoiled by the exotic variations that the market offers.

After reading that the darker the produce the more good stuff it has in it,

I started to try all the darker varieties to see if I would like them.

And what I found of course was that I liked them better, because a darker color also means more flavor.

Who knew?

Of course many of the varieties fall into the "heirloom" category.

That means that mainstream agriculture stopped farming them years ago.

So it's a real thrill to be able to enjoy them again even if it's only for a few short months.
