I was delighted to read that work has begun again on the
repairs for Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Unfortunately, work had to be halted just before it was due
to begin on March 23rd due to Covid-19.
There was of course much concern that the delay would make
matters worse.
But a pandemic is a pandemic and lives matter more than
buildings. Even if the buildings are as
beautiful as Notre Dame.
Work was restarted on June 8th, beginning with the removal
of the melted scaffolding.
And there was more good news. Notre Dame will be restored to its previous
glory.

Discussions about modernizing it abounded after the
fire. There was even a contest for new
ideas.
So I breathed a sigh of relief when I read that it would
maintain its Gothic beauty.
Perhaps because I can still remember studying its famous flying buttresses
in art history class.
It would have been a real shame to mess with it.
