Butterflies for Kenny #5

This butterfly is a homage to Charles Demuth’s I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold.

I am absolutely crazy about the way it turned out.  But then again, the original is one of my favorite pieces at The Met.

You can follow @butterfliesforkenny on Instagram and use the hashtag #butterfliesforkenny to join the fun.

Chinatown 6

Happy New Year!

It’s the year of the rabbit.

And, it is predicted to be a year of hope.

In Chinese culture the rabbit is considered the luckiest of the 12 zodiac animals.

Rabbit years include: 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999 and 2011.

Famous rabbits include: Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant & Robin Williams.

Oxes, tigers and snakes are all due for a lucky year.

The holiday runs from today through February 9th.

The parade in Chinatown NYC is scheduled for February 12th.

Starting at 1:00 pm.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden - Birdhouses 2

Now that it is cold out and the trees are ugly, I find myself yearning for spring.  That sure didn’t take long. 😊

Luckily I have another set of photos from last summer at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, when they had their pretty birdhouse exhibit.

A great idea, well executed.

They sprinkled the birdhouses throughout the garden to draw people to parts they might not normally visit.

The map helped me to find many of them, although some still eluded me.

Here’s a link to photos of them all… https://www.bbg.org/feature/birdhouses

I did get to see this cool apartment house.

And this one wins the award for prettiest location.

They’ll be a hard act to follow.

I wonder what the folks at the garden will think of next.

San Diego 2

Since we stayed in a central location on our most recent visit to San Diego, I thought I’d have the opportunity to walk around and check out the city.

What I soon found out is that San Diego is not a walking city.

I was able to visit Little Italy on foot.

But all the other interesting neighborhoods seemed to be a bit too far to walk to from the Embarcadero.

So we took a bus tour to see a bit more of the city.

The tour took two hours, but we barely had time to stop at each location, confirming that SD is a series of neighborhoods that are stretched out, with little in between.

Clearly the thing to do was to hop on and off the bus along the way.

But that would not have helped when we were whizzing past the really cool bridge.

I’m not sure how I could have captured that.

Drone maybe?
