Grand Central Holiday Train Show 2

As promised here is a second set of pics from this year’s holiday train show at Grand Central Terminal.

It’s a dazzling display, really capturing the magic of the city.

It also captures some of the more mundane scenes of city life.

And as in the city itself, the juxtaposition of the old and new.

Also, some sights that seem to have disappeared somewhere along the way.

They couldn’t resist the urge to be a bit playful.

And wandered from the theme to include some classic all-American scenery

and moments.

But it’s the NYC pizzazz that makes the exhibit fun.

Hats off to the MTA!

Grand Central Holiday Train Show

The MTA has a great collection of toy trains.

They show them off at their museum located in Grand Central Terminal.

While I have enjoyed many of their shows in the past this one is especially beautiful.  And it’s open through the end of the month – so there is still time to visit.

Not surprisingly, Grand Central Terminal is the star of the show.  Even the close-ups are adorable.

The display features trains and buildings from various eras.

I was amused to see the much beloved and greatly missed Pearl Paint represented.

And CBGB. 😊

The City Harvest trucks are a nice modern touch.

While the phone booth is just a distant memory - the pigeons not so much.

The exhibit was so cute that I will post a second set of photos next week.

Cheers,

PJ

NYC Holiday 2024 p2

Normally I do not shoot at night.

What can I say?  I prefer to go out when it’s sunny and warm.

But in a pretty lackluster holiday effort this year, Louis Vuitton was the exception.

They put up a stack of luggage on 57th and 5th, across the street from their store.

At night, they lit it up with a slide show.

I just had to go check it out since I doubt that they will do it again.

When the weather cooperated and we got a freak warm night – I did.

I’m not sure why they picked an animal theme.

But it was pretty cute.

Since I was out, I couldn’t resist shooting the candy canes at 9 West 57th Street.

They look even prettier than they do during the day.

As I was shooting, I was amused to hear someone ask – why 9?

The other night display that drew a crowd was Cartier’s.

A good time was had by all.

Holiday 2022 p2

Due to popular demand (Hi Dottie!) I am posting a second set of holiday pics from NYC.

These are from the Holiday Village in Union Square across the street from Jessica’s apartment.

The village has lots of lovely handcrafted items for sale – some with a NYC spin.

Macy’s had a Lego window this year!

And some other really cute ones.

But the professionals can’t really compete with the natives.  Check this out…

You would think that if someone across the street from you had gone that over-the-top you would call it a day.  But you would be wrong.  Two neighbors on the other side of the street (76th between 5th & Madison) rose to the challenge with beautiful tasteful displays of their own.  I can’t wait to see what happens next year!

Someone found a clever way to maximize their tiny restaurant.

And the churches got in on the action too.

Perhaps the most beautiful holiday art I saw this year was the card that Tim Baynes sent me.  It even has sparkles – which his wife Sian attached by hand.  How awesome is that?  A team effort from across the pond.

Holiday 2022

NYC is celebrating!

After a few years of Covid linked blues all bets are off this year – and it’s time to party.

From the window displays at Macy’s 34th Street

to the brownstones on the Upper East Side, everyone is trying to outdo each other.

And it’s awesome.

The Christmas tree merchants have arrived from out-of-town and are trying to entice customers.

And did I mention the faint smell of legal weed wafting about?

NYC gets more fun by the moment. Disneyland for grown-ups.  Next up - legalized gambling.

No wonder everyone wants to visit.

We have great trees inside and out!
