On
April 15, 2019, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was destroyed by fire.
Since
the fire started in the rafters under the roof they were able to save many of
the artifacts in the church and the towers.
So
they will rebuild.
But
since it took 200 years the first time, the 10 year timetable they have been
discussing seems unrealistic.
The
fire was probably started by restorers.
Just like the one in Windsor Castle a few years back.
They
were working on the spire and removed the 12 Apostle statues before the
fire. So they are ok.
As are
the famous Rose stained glass windows.
But the roof and spire are gone.
Because
Notre Dame is both beautiful and historic, Edward and I visited it on both our
trips to Paris.
And
even climbed the stairs to get up close and personal with the gargoyles.
This
pic is of Edward showing off our newest French refrigerator magnet in front of
Notre Dame - a baguette of course!
I'm so
glad that we had a chance to enjoy Notre Dame when we did. And am sad for those who have not.
