When I went to Central Park last week to shoot fall leaves I headed for the Conservatory Gardens on 105th Street figuring I would shoot the daisies as well.
Unfortunately my timing was a bit off.
When I arrived park personnel and volunteers were in the process of pulling them.
I could have scored a really nice bouquet. But since I was just starting my walk it wasn't practical - maybe next year.
I did get to hear some insiders gossip though.
Normally once the daisies are pulled, the tulip bulbs for next year are planted. But, thanks to global warming (sigh) the tulips have been struggling with a fungus for the past few years.
So this year, they will plant daffodils which better resist the fungus.
Next year they plan on redoing the beds to add better drainage and then after that they will be able to go back to tulips. Hopefully it will work.
Meanwhile though, I am not the only one who got their last licks in just as the daises were being pulled.
Go bee go!
