Upper West Side

I don't get over to the Upper West Side too often,

but occasionally I will venture over on a nice day

to see if I can get some interesting photographs.

Of course the Dakota is a favorite subject,

as is Lincoln Center.

But sometimes it's the street life that's most interesting,

or the skies,

or people hard at work.

On one particular day though I saw these two lovely ladies having their picture taken.

I couldn't resist taking a few shots of my own since they were so striking.

I have to say, that I liked my shots better than the final ad!

White Magnolias

As I eagerly await the first sign of spring,

I find my thoughts turning to the flowers to come.

 Among my favorites are magnolias.

The white ones are usually the first magnolias to bloom

so they get extra points for that.

We have a few sprinkled around the neighborhood,

so I didn't even need to head over to the park to enjoy them.

But, the ones in Central Park are particularly beautiful so they are well worth the trip.

I only hope that when they finally do start to bloom

the weather cooperates so I can enjoy them.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Austrian Alps

With a chance of snow in tomorrow's forecast

I couldn't help but think about places that are more suited to snow than we are.

These photos are from the Austrian Alps.

Known not only for their majestic snow covered mountains

but also their bluer than blue lakes.

And yes, in case you are wondering this is where Julie Andrews sang at the beginning of The Sound of Music.

The area is also known as Salzkammergut.

The architecture is beautiful and varied,

Swiss style chalets and quaint little villages.

But my favorite photo was this one -- and yes that little girl was reading the book to the horse!

Enjoy.

Rose Sculptures 2

What's a girl to do when she has sprung fever

and there are no flowers blooming yet?

Take another look at the rose sculptures from years past of course!

These fun pieces were done by Will Ryman and displayed all along Park Avenue Spring 2011.

Their humor certainly tickled my funny bone.

And looking now at the lady bugs I am wondering if mine will reappear this year to take care of my aphids

or if they have flown off to other gardens.

I guess I will find out soon enough.

Stand by.

It can't be long now.

Oh, and by the way, here is the link for the first set of photos that I posted.

Enjoy!

Embroidery: Purple Coral

This piece from the Flower Power series

incorporates an embroidery of a rock and coral

with a drawing of a Cattleya orchid -- also known as a Corsage Orchid.

Enjoy!
