Digital Collage: January Butterfly

This is the first in a new series of digital collages comprised of butterfly pen and ink drawings combined with flower photographs.

A big thanks to @blossom_aoy and @norwegian_butterflies for their inspirational photographs on Instagram.  I've wanted to do a butterfly series for years, but needed some photos to work from, so it's truly a global collaboration.

72 & Second Subway Station 2

Time for some more mosaics from the 72nd and Second Ave station on the new Q subway extension.  

It would be impossible for me to describe what a wonderful gift the new subway is. 

When they started to build it in 2007 we joked that it would be finished just in time for us to be old. 

And that's exactly how it has turned out. 

Here are some more photos of the beautiful mosaics at the 72nd Street station.

In my last post I just focused on the one that I liked best, 

(which happens to be a self-portrait of the artist) 

but they are all pretty amazing. 

Hats off to Vik Muniz, the artist, and Franz Mayer, the fabricator of the tiles.

I smile every time I see them.
