One
plant's hell is another plant's heaven.
This
may have been a bad year for early flowering trees,
but
that made it a great year for the azaleas, which were truly spectacular.
It's
not a coincidence.
The
lack of foliage above allowed them to have more sunlight and they responded
accordingly.
These
are from my favorite haunts -
Central Park
and
the Brooklyn Botanic Garden,
which
has more exotic varieties.
I saw
some amazing photos on Instagram this spring from Japan where they have fields
of azaleas. I'd like to see them
someday.
