The snow started on Wednesday afternoon and by the evening it was looking very pretty. When it finished on Thursday afternoon we had 10 1/2 inches in Central Park. It was just what we needed. It's been a while since we had a big snowstorm in NYC. The last one was January 2016.
I was beginning to wonder if we would ever get snow again. This was twice as much snow as we got all of last year. And the biggest snow in December since 2009.
The hood hit peak prettiness early the next morning as the sun was rising. Of course it was destined to look terrible the next day.
But before that. It was off to the park. It seemed like quite a few kids blew off their remote learning. But I can't say that I blame them. We've been cooped up for months so it was really nice to go outside and play.
It's tough to be a kid in New York City.
The park was meh.
I have a strong preference for snow covered trees and I have been lucky enough to photograph them so often that any other year I might have actually held off on a visit to the park waiting for better conditions.
But given the rarity of snow for the past few years and my desperation for something new to do, it was a welcome trip.
With any luck we'll get some prettier days as the season progresses.
Fingers crossed. It's going to be a long boring winter.
