Lego Flowers

The stoop at East 78th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues on the Upper East Side

is a neighborhood favorite.

According to the owner of the brownstone – Kristi Hemric, Instagram: @khemric

it all started with a little flower arch to cover some scaffolding.

But now it has turned into a full-blown passion project.

Kristi and her family have been treating us to lovely displays which change with the holidays.

So of course, they are always on my list when I venture out.

This year they really outdid themselves with a LEGO flower display for Easter.

How cool is that?

I can’t wait to see what they do next. 😉

Here’s a post about yarn bombing in the Village…

NYC Holiday 2024

I thought I’d get an early start on the holiday decorations this year, so I headed down to midtown to check them out this week.

They hadn’t lit the tree at Rockefeller Center yet, so I got to see all the preparations.

Cartier went spacy this year.

While they may not be new, this is the first year I noticed these giant candy canes on 6th Ave.

This pic of giant toy soldiers includes the Hilton – the UHC CEO shooting took place the following morning.

I couldn’t resist taking a reflection shot in one of the buttons of the Louis Vuitton luggage display.

With Saks pulling back on their decorations this year – Bergdorf’s windows were the stars.

Filled with all sorts of NYC goodies in beautiful colors.

But my favorite window by far was the Lego display of Rockefeller Center, complete with tree.  I wonder if they hire seasonal temps.

Happy Holidays!

NYC Holiday

Is it any wonder that so many people look forward to visiting NYC

 during the holidays?

New York loves its decorations

-- probably because so many of us spend most of our time outside walking up and down the streets.

So we dress up for even the most minor excuses.

But Chanukah and Christmas are always extra special.

Some decorations -- like the Rockefeller Christmas tree are perennials

and reappear each year.

Others, like the store windows change yearly.

But sometimes it's the locals that provide the biggest smiles.

Enjoy!

Xmas in NYC!

The holidays are a magical time in Manhattan.

When I was a kid, my parents used to drive me and my brother Ken through midtown at night so that we could enjoy all the lights.

I’ve grown jaded over the years and these days I generally only visit if I have guests in from out of town -- which of course does happen fairly often.

Several of the stores have amazing window displays every year.  This is one from this year at Lord & Taylor’s.

These were from Saks in 2010.

I loved the reflection from the surrounding buildings.

And I think this one came from a building on Park Ave.

While it is unusual to have no snow in December, as we did this year, we usually don’t have much.  Therefore our Christmases are seldom white.

So, when we did have snow in 2009, I hustled down to the tree to get a photo.  The dedicated city workers were ahead of me, already clearing the snow for the tourists to come.

And of course, we can’t forget St. Patrick’s Cathedral.  One year my brother-in-law Kevin, exhausted from walking around Manhattan for the past few days, took a quick
nap in the pews while the rest of us looked around.

Ciao
