Sunflowers in Manhattan

All of a sudden it seems like everywhere I look I see sunflowers.
They started to appear on the streets of NYC a few years ago.
Since they were happy in our hot humid summer weather,
people noticed.
And each year a few more were planted.
But what really has led to their increased presence is the bike lanes.
To separate them from the car lanes small islands with trees and plants have been added.
Since these locations get full sun and have minimal soil,
the sunflowers are perfect for them, so I imagine they are here to stay.
Which is nice because when I see them I think of a smiley face and I smile too.
Cheers!
