Forsythia 3

Spring may have sprung on the 21st, but in NYC it's only on paper so far.

Normally you can pretty much count on the old saying - March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.

But so far it hasn't been very lamb-y around here.

The crocuses are out and lots of bulbs are coming up, but the forsythia are just starting to bloom.

This pic is from the 72nd Street transit across Central Park.  I took it on Tuesday and the bushes were just starting to come to life.  They tend to bloom early because they get full sun, and seeing them turn bright yellow each spring as I travel through the park, is always a welcome sight.

The rest of these photos are from the collection at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which is quite extensive and lovely.

Unfortunately, a greedy developer is trying to overturn existing construction regulations so that they can build large sun-blocking buildings just across the street.

Can you imagine?

It reminds me of a lyric from Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell -- "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Hopefully they will come to their senses before they do something so stupid.

Happy Spring!
