Hellbrunn
Palace, built in 1613-1619, is located near Salzburg, Austria. It is known for its trick fountains which
were designed to squirt unsuspecting visitors as they visited.
The
statue pictured is of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, who was also Queen of
Hungary. She was born in 1837, and was
greatly beloved, particularly in Hungary as she played a key role in joining
the two countries. She married at 16,
ruled for 44 years (the longest tenure for an Austrian Empress) and was
assassinated at 60. It appears that the
statue is no longer at Hellbrunn and has been moved to Salzburg.
Cheers!
