Now that I am back on the subways, I have begun to check out some different neighborhoods to see how they are faring.
These pics are from SOHO. Similar to the other NYC hoods, retail was not faring well.
But it was clear that things were starting to heat up.
This graffiti was removed a week after I took this photo.
And many workers were fixing up the stores on Broadway.
Of course for each person working there are usually at least three watching. What's up with that?
Meanwhile though, the restaurants on Spring and Prince Street were hopping. That's a sign that a fair amount of people have continued to live in the area.
But New Yorkers also love outdoor seating. So the explosion of tiny restaurants is not only practical but irresistible to locals looking for a bite.
And it is abundantly clear that NYC is coming back strong. In fact I read that more stores were being opened in NYC than ever before. I guess that's what happens when you lower rents.
Hold on to your hat. It's going to be a wild summer.
Cheers!
