My brother’s Lego

My brother Ken and I were Lego kids.

I am a free form user.  This is my last build – a condo with a rocking backyard created with my great nephew Spencer.

My brother on the other hand likes sets.

He has built so many now that he has a Lego room.  How cool is that?

Some of the sets are of specific places – like the Taj Mahal

and the London Bridge.

There are a couple of castles of course.

And a roller coaster.

But mostly there are streets of adorable buildings with cool little details. Checkout the fire hydrant. 😉

You could spend hours just looking at them.

But who has the patience for that – never mind actually building them in the first place?

Not to mention the fact that if I tried, I would probably manage to lose some of the key pieces along the way.

So, hats off to Ken.  (This is his current project.)

May he live long and build more, because you can never have too much Lego!!!

Lego 2

It’s that time of the year!

I stopped by a toy store the other day and it was filled to the brim with Lego.

I get it.  I’m a big Lego fan myself.

I prefer free-form to sets, which puts me in the minority for a change 😉

These days its more popular than ever with tv shows, movies

and even artists exploring its versatility.

The Flagship Lego Store on 5th Avenue is the newest eye catcher.

Here are some pics from a visit to it…

The photos in this blog are from the store on 23rd Street and the “Toys Are Us” that used to be Times Square.

I’m always partial to sculptures with a New York City theme.

Especially those with a sense of humor.

5th Ave Lego Store

NYC has a new lego store.

Apparently they decided to take advantage of lockdown and their greater bargaining power due to loss of retail in the city, to upgrade their midtown store.  The new store is located at 636 Fifth Avenue.

I didn't really tune in.

But then I realized that I would be unable to buy pieces online in time for my trip to North Carolina.

(They say to allow three weeks for "pick a brick" pieces.  But they have stiffed me in the past, so I would recommend allowing even more time.)

Luckily I still had time to head down to the new store.

It's quite lovely.  A bit bigger than the last one.  And filled with set-ups designed for Instagram photos.

I was sorry that I didn't bring my real camera.  But even with these shots taken with my phone you can see how visual it is.

Unfortunately their pick-a-brick selection was limited to small pieces.  When I asked about it on the way out, they were honest, and told me - we take what they give us.

Yeah, they definitely would have stiffed me online.

Meanwhile though, we had enough pieces to create this pair of co-op's with terraces, a doorman, and garden and deck bridges.

And a backyard with a pool, pool house, garden, concert area and obstacle course.  Not bad.  Not bad at all.  Thanks Spencer!  :-)
