In case you missed it, Shalane won this year's NYC Marathon
- the first American woman to do so in 40 years! (She's the blonde on the far left.)
Wow. That's a long
time.
Of course she has an impressive resume - an Olympic silver
medal and American records in the 3000, 5000 and 15K.
Still, it was a huge surprise that made the day even more
special.
It was a misty day, but not that cold so it wasn't really
bad out.
And that meant big crowds and everyone having a good
time. Even people who needed a little
help along the way. ;-)
But the day was tinged with some sadness as we bid goodbye
to Meb Keflezighi.
That's him in the bright orange shorts running off into the
sunset.
After 26 marathons, including wins in NYC 2009, and Boston in 2014,
he finished in 11th place - not bad for 42.
He will be missed.
