Madurodam "the little city with a smile" is a theme park in The Hague in The Netherlands.
It features models of famous Dutch landmark buildings
and some everyday sights too. :-)
Built in 1:25 scale in 1952 it was funded by the parents of George Maduro.
He was a Dutch law student who first became a lieutenant in the army, and then a member of the Dutch Resistance.
He died in the Dachau concentration camp.
Profits from the park are donated to various charities.
The park underwent a major renovation in 2012 in honor of its 60th anniversary.
These photos were taken prior to that, so it may look very different now.
Certainly this very elaborate sand castle was just a short term display.
