The artist Chuck Close died on Thursday. He was 81 years old. (This is a self-portrait.)
He was best known for his portraits. I visit the one in The Met frequently.

But the best place to see his work is actually the 86th Street Q Train subway station.
The entire Q train has been blessed with beautiful mosaics.
The best ones are the ones at the 72nd Street station.

But the ones at 86th Street are all reproductions of Chuck Close's work from 2017.
There are a few of various people. in different styles - showing his range.
And, two self-portraits, including this one in what I consider to be his signature style.
The glare from the lights made photographing the mosaics difficult
so it's worth going to see them in person the next time you visit NYC.
Here's a couple of blogs I posted of the construction, which made us nuts for over a decade, but was well worth it in the end...
