By the time the snow ended on February 2, 2021, Central Park had 17.2 inches of snow. That's a big deal for NYC. In fact it was our 16th biggest snowstorm since 1869.
Since our average low temperature in the winter is 43 degrees, snow is in fact fairly rare.
Last year we got a grand total of 4.8 inches. That was actually below normal. But this year we are already above normal and are expecting more snow this weekend.
Since we are all desperate to get out of our cramped apartments, everyone decided to head over to Central Park to build snowmen.
I have photographed the park for decades and I have maybe one or two pics of snowmen, so I was quite baffled.
Clearly the snow was good for packing. But that's certainly happened before.
And then it dawned on me -- Frozen. Of course.
An area behind the Met was snowmen central. Perhaps they had a contest.
And this very zen guy in the middle of the ball field deserves to be upgraded to "ice sculpture" status.
But my favorite were the sports fans. I guess someone wanted an audience for their snowball fights.
