Almost Tall Ships – 7/3/26

 

New York City went all out celebrating the nation’s 250^th.

Multiple museums displayed copies of the Declaration of Independence.

Double fireworks – covered both the Hudson and East rivers.

And there were two ship parades.

These photos are from July 3^rd.

Sort of an appetizer for the big event on the 4^th.

While those tall ships headed north up the Hudson,

these traveled south on the East River.

Which made it very convenient for me to go over and check them out.

And while they weren’t as dramatic as their taller counterparts, they still put on a pretty good show.

East Midtown Greenway 3

 

Construction work continues on the East River Esplanade extension.  

Apparently plans include revamping the Andrew Haswell Green Park. Thanks Andrew - whoever you are. ;-)

These photos are from the stretch between 61st and 53rd streets where they are building the extension on piers over the river.  

It's very picturesque.  Lots of primary colors.

It was supposed to be finished May 2022.  Oops.

Of course the delay does not explain why the esplanade has been closed between 68th and 70th Streets for the past few months.  

The entrance at 71st Street is also closed.  

For some odd reason this has really upset Edward.  

I keep telling him that the entrance on 78th is still open and he can walk north.  

But for some reason he doesn't want to.  I guess the views aren't as nice.
