I got an email from the Met the other day asking me to renew my membership when it expires at the end of the month.
I was really surprised. I figured it had ended ages ago.
I read that visitors need reservations now. But thought it would probably be easier for members to get them, so I checked the website.
Much to my joy I discovered that members do not need reservations! Now there's a perk I can really appreciate.
So the other day when we woke up, and decided we were in the mood, we headed over to check out the Alice Neel exhibit.
The line runs through the Rodin gallery so it was a great waiting experience. And Edward took full advantage.
The exhibit was quite extensive and included a wider range of subjects than expected. I especially appreciated the views from her window as I create art from my view too. It's a very New York thing to do.
But no visit to the Met would be complete without a trip to the roof.
Especially since I had already seen pics of Alex Da Corte's "As Long As the Sun Lasts" - a homage to Big Bird and Calder.
In case you were wondering, as we were, why Big Bird is blue instead of yellow, it's a reference to the 1985 Sesame Street movie - "Follow That Bird." In the flick, Big Bird is captured by a traveling fair, dyed blue, and marketed as the Blue Bird of Happiness.
We could all use a little happiness these days, so it works for me.
And speaking of happiness, we had such a lovely day that I will be renewing my membership forthwith and will plan on more visits before it gets really busy again. And maybe I will even bring Edward along too. ;-)
