NYC Highways and Bridges 2

I was watching a documentary about the NYC subways the other day,

and they trashed Robert Moses.

Apparently his passion for highways and bridges not only resulted in the leveling of several neighborhoods,

but he also redeployed subway funding to his pet projects,

which resulted in the deterioration of the subway system.

What a guy!

But on the plus side, those highways allow for some of the best views in NYC.

These pics were taken driving on the FDR, BQE and the Gowanus Expressway.

It’s not always a smooth ride,

but it usually is a pretty one.

Here are some previous pics…

Collaboration with Tim #33 – East 42nd Street

When people think about 42nd street, they typically think of Times Square which is on the west side of Manhattan.  But if you head east on 42nd street you’ll encounter some classic NYC views.  This pic was taken on 5th Avenue and 42nd And yes, that’s the Chrysler Building popping up in the background.

Since Tim likes clutter as much as I do, he decided to immortalize the scene in his typical fashion.  Sigh.  So beautiful.

Here are some previous collaborations with Tim.  And you can follow us on Instagram at @pjlehrer and @timbaynes…

Water Lilies 4

If it’s August it’s water lily time!

These flashy little beauties make me smile even in the heat of the summer.

Although I really can’t complain this year since NYC is doing so much better than so many other places.

July 2023 was the hottest July on record globally.

It was 108 in Rome!

Meanwhile it’s been a bit less humid than usual in the city and we have had only one official heatwave.

(That’s when it goes over 90 for three days in a row.)

If you are wondering how global warming will affect water lilies it looks like they will be ok as they flourish in temperate and tropical climates.

They are also bisexual.  So they can pollinate themselves and each other.

How trendy!

Here are the previous water lily blogs…

Carole A. Feuerman on Park Avenue South

As soon as the weather starts to get nice, my thoughts turn to outdoor art.

Typically exhibits in NYC only last about six months so there’s a clock ticking.

As soon as I saw some photos of Carole A. Feuerman’s sculptures, currently on display on Park Avenue South between 34th and 38th Streets, I knew I had to go check them out.

https://patronsofparkavenue.org/art/

Since they feature swimmers, they really speak to me!

Edward always says that good sculpture looks good from all angles.  These definitely passed that test.

Of course, they were getting some attention from the natives,

or not. 😉

Some of the sculptures sit on mirrored balls that reflect the passing traffic.

And The MetLife Building makes a lovely background.

They are definitely worth a visit and they are on display through the end of the year, so there’s still plenty of time.
