Easter Parade

I finally made it to NYC’s Easter Parade this year.

Sort of.

I had read that it was running from 10 am to 4 pm.

Since it was cool in the morning, I thought I would catch the end of the parade when it would be warmer out.

But when I arrived at 57th street at 3:00 I saw cars instead of people on 5th Avenue.  Oh no.

I’m still not sure what happened.

But I headed toward St. Patrick’s which is the epicenter of the event.

And when I got there, I could see there were still plenty of people with outrageous hats posing on the steps.

Cool.

Later I saw this photo of the crowds during the actual parade and realized that my late arrival was fortuitous.

But I still may want to go earlier next year. 😉

Central Park – 4/8/25

It’s been a cold rainy spring in NYC.

Not exactly a surprise since that’s what most NYC springs are like.

Then it goes immediately to hot and humid.

But we did get a sunny morning last week, so I headed to Central Park to enjoy the early blooming spring trees –

mostly cherries

but also white and pink magnolias.

I see that I posted a set of pics from roughly the same time last year.

But that day, the temperature went up to 70 degrees.

Here’s hoping that we get a day like that next week.

I could see that the yellow magnolias were all budding and almost ready to go.  Fingers crossed.

Pink Magnolias 4

Spring has sprung in NYC.

Despite chilly temperatures, and lots of rain,

this was the week that the early blooming spring trees came to life.

First out of the gate are the pink magnolias.

They are a city favorite.

With good reason.

Beautiful, varied, and always a joy to behold.

Here are some previous blogs of pink magnolias.

I see that in the last one I mentioned the prevention of a housing complex that would overshadow the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.  I spoke too soon I am afraid.

I recently read that the developer is modifying plans.  Sigh.
